Livestock numbers represent the amount of beef cattle farmed in Brazil (including male and female, young and adult animals).
These data are estimated by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), and are based on the Census of Agriculture, made in accordance with recommendations and basic principles embraced by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Organization (UNO), which allows the international comparability of those statistics. A Census of Agriculture is currently under progress in Brazil. Partial information is made available through the City Agriculture and Livestock Production Estimates (PPM in Portuguese), also published by the IBGE. Rio Grande do Sul’s State numbers are informed (at least) annually by the farmers to the local Animal and Plant Health Offices.
These data come from the IBGE and from the Animal and Plant Health Surveillance System controlled by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Rio Grande do Sul State.
